The Sunday Rule

How one simple commitment made weekends sacred again

1,890+ families adopted this rule

We didn't add anything to our Sundays. We just removed the thing that was stealing them.

Our Sundays used to evaporate. We'd wake up, check our phones, and suddenly it was 4 PM. Everyone had been in the same house, in different rooms, in different digital worlds. My husband would look up from his phone and say, 'Where did the weekend go?' Every. Single. Sunday.

So we made a rule: No phones on Sunday. Not 'less phone.' No phone.

The first phone-free Sunday felt like it lasted a week. We had so much time we didn't know what to do with it.

Family First made it possible. We set up a recurring Protected Moment from Saturday night at 9 PM through Sunday at 8 PM. Everyone's phones went into a basket by the front door. The app blocked everything except emergency calls.

The first Sunday was awkward. We made pancakes, went to the park, played board games, and baked cookies — all before noon. Time moved differently. My daughter said, 'It feels like Sunday is actually a whole day now.' She was right.

We've kept this up for a full year now. Sundays have become the day my kids look forward to most. We've started cooking elaborate meals together, gone on hikes, built a treehouse, and started a family book club. My 9-year-old calls Sunday 'the real day.'

The funny thing is, nobody misses their phone. Once you taste a full day of genuine connection, a notification feels like an interruption — not a necessity.
